Barcelona is a great urban playground. To make things even better, it also has some great beaches to relax in! Do you want to know great places to catch some sun? This blog will explore top beaches in and around Barcelona for your convenience! Giving you more chilling time at the beach!

Barceloneta

Barceloneta is the perfect city beach. Great location, surrounded by beach bars, restaurants, nightclubs and it also has a great beach volleyball space!!! The beach has people of all ages and background hanging out enjoying the natural beauty of the coast. Giving it a great character.  Lined with palm trees and a mountainous background, Barceloneta has a definite paradise feel to it. Additionally, the beach has a large arcade and the Espai de Mar Centre offers a variety of leisure activities such as paddle boarding, surfing, yoga and equipment hire. How to get there?

There is a metro stop called “Barceloneta” (yellow line, L4) or you can walk down (10minutes approx.) from Drassanes down to the shore. Bus: Passeig Marítim / Almirall Cervera: 45, 59, D20. There is also parking available nearby.

Where to eat & drink when in Barceloneta?

La Deliciosa – Perfect location right on the beach. Delicious Mediterranean food. The place has a fun and comfortable atmosphere with a local vibe! I highly recommend you go check it out! Tapa Tapa Xiringuito – excellent seafood with a great view onto the sea. The prices are okay and the staff is helpful. I highly recommend the mussels with white wine and olive oil!  Where to find them? Carrer de Pontevedra, 58, 08003 Barcelona. You can find more about them here. 

Makamaka Beach Burger Cafe – Started by a Dutch team. Bound by their shared passion for good food, great people, and good vibes. Makamaka means intimate friend in Hawaiian!

Furthermore,  the restaurant serves good hamburgers, cocktails and a lot more! You can find this burger place in Barceloneta at Passeig de Joan de Borbó, 76.

Mar Bella

Mar Bella loosely translates as sea beautiful or beautiful sea. That’s quite cool.  You will discover this is a great spot for doing activities near the seaside. Here you will find a skateboarding bowl, basketball court and ping-pong table. Plus, there is a volleyball court and a children’s playground.  The beach attracts a youthful crowd from the surrounding student faculties as well a variety of sports lovers.

El Boo – This boat shaped restaurant/bar offers excellent food and an amazing roof terrace to enjoy the sun. A great spot to relax on loungers, have a cocktail and enjoy the views! Nova Icaria

If you are after a quiet spot this one is for you. Perfect beach to escape the city and enjoy the white sand while listening to gentle sea waves. This is a great one fro families. Located near Port Olímpic, it is close to a variety of restaurants and bars. In addition, Nova Icaria boasts the title of the best place in the coastline for sports and activities facilities!

El Chiringuito Las Sardinitas by Moncho’s – this beachside restaurant has a magnificent terrace overlooking the beach and great seafood! If you are looking for a place to get some shade from the sun and refuel swing by this place! You can find them Av. del Litoral, 36, 08005 Barcelona.

Beaches outside of Barcelona

St. Pol de Mar

This beach is an hour train journey away from Barcelona. When you discover the natural beauty found here you will realise that the journey was worth it. Hidden coves, crystal clear water and rolling hills. If you are after a scenic bit of coast, this one is for you.

If you get hungry head to Xiringuito Tottanua for some great Spanish cuisine! You can find them in 08350 Arenys de Mar, Barcelona.

Sitges

Sitges Beach
Located 45 minutes from Barcelona. Sitges beach is ideal for both those seeking to soak up some culture or enjoy Spanish nightlife. On one hand, Sitges is home to seven museums/art galleries. You can find out more here. On the other hand, Sitges is also a great hub of bars and clubs! Interestingly enough, Sitges is the home to the founder of Bacardi Rum. There is a place to honour that called Casa Bacardi. There you can learn how to make the perfect mojito!  Finally, Sitges has amazing seafood and traditional Catalan food that you can enjoy by the beach!

Where to eat and drink in Sitges?

El Cable Sitges- be sure to check this place out. It’s been open since 1956 and it has the best reputation in town. If you are after the traditional tapas, which everyone must try, El Cable is the place. Only thing, the places opens late 7 pm on weekends!

Tossa de Mar

Situated 100 kilometres from Barcelona the small fishing village calls itself ‘The Blue Paradise’. Located between the french border and Barcelona, Tossa offers natural beauty and loads of outdoor activities. Visiting Tossa provides an authentic Catalan experience as well as opportunity to discover your adventurous side with activities such as snorkelling, cliff jumping to name a few.
