As you maybe already noticed the tradition Spanish or Catalonian cuisine isn’t best tailored for a plant-based eater. From the massive pig legs that are sliced into Jamón to fish filled paella. Local cuisine can seem scary to a vegan. That is why I will share with you the best spots and things to order while in Barcelona!

1) Vegetalia

Vegetalia is a great vegan-friendly place to visit while in Barcelona. They have 3 locations in Barcelona. They can be found in Gotico, Raval and Born. The location in Gotico – the Gothic quarter offers great outdoor sitting. What to order? The vegan paella is an amazing twist on the traditional dish also I recommend the vegan burger. Pictures of food below! You can check out Vegetalia by pressing here.

The paella at Vegetalia is of very high standard plus they use the authentic paella spices as well. Photo courtesy of @katejudina

Seitan is basically wheat gluten the main protein of wheat. Sounds evil but 75 grams protein per 100 grams. Great meat substitute. Photo courtesy of @katejudina

2) What tapas are vegan-friendly?

When in Barcelona it is essential to order a couple of tapas when having a drink, as they are always really good and complement the drinks. So what is a couple of go-to’s when out in Barcelona which tick the vegan box and taste delicious? Here is my top 3:

  1. Pimientos de Padrón (Padrón peppers) – fried small green peppers coated in sea salt. My all time favourite. They are not hot or spicy.

  2. Pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) – Catalan dish, coated in olive oil and tomato. Delicious. pan-con-tomate
  3. patatas bravas – potatoes with Bravas sauce. Another Catalan classic, the perfect partner to wine and beer!

Enjoy Vegan

Another really tasty vegan place to swing by is Enjoy Vegan. At Enjoy Vegan Barcelona they do some really great Spanish classics like pintxos, a small snack that usually comes with bread that is native to the Basque country. If you are after an authentic experience pintxos should be on your list!
