There’s nothing better than sitting down with a large glass of wine after a long day exploring the vibrant historic city of Barcelona! Barcelona is well known for being the capital of the Catalan wine industry and with wine bars or “Bodegas” on every street corner of the city it can make the choice difficult at times. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or not, why should you settle for average? We have put together a list of our favourite places around the city that are guaranteed to satisfy anyone with a true love of vino.
Els Sortidors del Parlament
If you love tapas and you love wine then Els Sortidors del Parlament is the perfect venue for you! Boasting a huge selection of wines from around the world and also from the Catalon region, their friendly servers are always on hand to offer their advice to those who might feel overwhelmed by so much choice. The venue sells wines at shop prices with a corkage fee of €4 and beers served from the barrel, the rustic authenticity of this bar makes it a popular destination amongst tourists and locals alike!
Can Cisa/Bar Brutal
Located in El Born a district oozing with history and culture, why not stop of at this renovated neighbourhood bar. Although the two names might confuse you there are two separate entrances to this venue, with a wine bar at the back and a Bodega at the front they are not separate business’s however.
Whilst enjoying the wine list which exhibits over 300 different wines, all from organic and bio dynamic producers, you can really expect to feel a true authentic and local feel to this bar. They sell the wines “at the same prices as before” really wanting to keep the locals interested and not losing the historic nature of the bar.
So sit back and let the helpful bar staff select some of the finest wines to tingle your tastebuds and if your peckish this venue also serves authentic Catalan food and tapas!
Vino y Otros Remedios
Directly translates as “wine and other remedies” for those wanting to treat their tastebuds without breaking the bank this is the place for you! Most wines costing less than 15 euro’s you are free to buy a bottle and enjoy in the comfort of your own home, or sit back and enjoy the passion and enthusiasm the owner gives when recommending and explaining their extensive wine list, priding himself on keeping the customers happy and their tastebuds tantalized.
It seems to be a recipe for success as the venue seems to be a favourite full of regulars and newbies alike!
You will love the owner’s passion for wine and when he can, Umberto packs a bag in search of the unknown wine makers in the area, looking for a story that, once back in the bodega, he’ll love telling the customers.
If your looking for the perfect food and wine pairing then Marídame is the perfect venue for you! This venue has been known to be compared to a dating website for wine and food. With over 200 wines and beautiful craft beers to choose from why not let the expert sommelier recommend something from the pantry to really treat your tastebuds.
The bottles each have uniquely designed labels on them which describe best the flavour you should expect, varying from fruity, cheeky to full bodied.
The venue even offers pairing courses which are held in a different room for parties and functions!
For those who do not know much about wine this experience is perfect for those wanting to learn more, and what better way to learn than with a lovely glass of vino and some tapas!
Sant Gervasi – Galvany
Hosted by co founder Isabella Brunet, this venue is noted to be one of the best wine bars in the world by big media names such as Wall Street Journal, Food and Wine magazine and the Financial times. With a cellar boasting an impressive range of Catalan and International fine wines the sommelier team of nine will do everything they can to ensure this is an unforgettable experience for food and wine.
Although on the pricey side at about €60 per head with a minimum of 2 people, if you really are passionate about wine and good food this is something you just cannot afford to miss out on whilst in Barcelona.
